Description
Addressed to an audience interested and passionate about cinema, animation and technology, this book helps you to enter in the fascinating world of 3D animated movies. It is a full-colour book that describes the evolution of digital animation, from the genesis of 3D animation through the influence of visual effects, information technologies and videogames.
Focused on 3D animated feature films, the book describes the different techniques that allow an idea to become a 3D movie. Starting from the description of the several roles involved in a production you will discover all the stages of a 3D animation production.
The book describes all the creation process, following the subsequent areas:

- Computer animation history: origins, artistic research, cinema and visual effects, commercial developments.
- Organization: team, production plan and tracking.
- Pre-production: concept and subject, script and design, music and soundtrack, storyboard, style guide and dubbing.
- Production: 3D vs 2D, layout, modelling, rigging, animation, shading and texturing, lighting, special effects, rendering.
- Post-production: screening tests, video and audio post-production.

Notes
It has been really interested writing this book and having the chance to have the biggest Italian publisher to distribute it. The book is based on my thesis, developed during the Industrial Design Course at Politecnico di Milano.
My hope is that this book could be useful to all the people that want to approach the fantastic world of 3D animation.

I would like to thank Michele Zannoni (University of Venice) for introduce the book in the bibliography of the Industrial Design course.
